Stepping Stones Programme
As the national aim of the PESSYP strategy expanded to a 5 hour offer of sport for all 5-19 year olds, it became clear that the take up of non-school sporting opportunities were now as important nationally as the core 2 hours offered by schools.
Non-school participation in sport has always been a core part of the Tower Hamlets School Sport Partnership's vision as it is the best means of continuing all of the secondary benefits of sport (personal, social, health etc) into adult life.
The wider focus and extended support allowed the Tower Hamlets School Sport Partnership to again begin thinking innovatively about how the specific issues and challenges to non-school participation in the borough could be overcome.
The answer is the Stepping Stones Programme.
There are many, often complicated issues that restrict Tower Hamlets' pupils access to sport outside of school and these often vary from neighbourhood to neighbourhood. The Stepping Stones Programme essentially allows local young people to guide and shape a bespoke and localised opportunity for other youngsters that can overcome as many of those barriers and restrictions as possible.
Further detail on the specific strands of the scheme are available in this section of the website but if you require any more information please contact the interim Stepping Stones Project Manager Jack Ford on:
