Young Leaders are students in secondary schools that play a role in promoting PE and sport within their school. For many students, becoming a Young Leader will be their first experience of sports leadership.
There are no particular training courses required to become a Young Leader, though many will complete sport specific Leaders Awards, Officials Awards or Level 1 Sports Leaders Awards.
Their responsibilities are very much based around each school’s needs, rather than having any specific tasks. Generally, they assist with PE and sport within their own school as opposed to working with primary schools and the wider community. However, THYSF will often hire them to officiate and volunteer in Level 2 School Games Competition, providing them with invaluable experience.
The very best Young Leaders will graduate onto the Young Ambassador programme in year 10.
